Did your surname make the top 20 list for 2018?
With our country’s ever changing and multicultural landscape, we at White Pages Australia want to share with you what surnames are most popular across the land.
If you are a Smith, congratulations! You are the proud owner of the most popular surname in Australia. Don’t worry Jones, Williams, Brown and Wilson – you round out the top five. Where do all these Smiths live, you ask? Port Macquarie (NSW), Dubbo (NSW) and Devonport (TAS) hold the most Smiths in Australia – in fact, four of the Smithiest suburbs in Australia are right out of NSW.
However, if you are a Smith looking for your own place to live, Dallarnil (QLD) is one of the least Smithy populated suburbs. Go there and you do you!
If you are looking for the double, Smithton (TAS) has the most amount of Smith’s for a suburb including ‘Smith’ and Ladysmith (NSW) has the least, only containing one Smith in their White Pages listed population.
Victoria’s multiculturalism is on display with Nguyen & Singh both holding spots in the top 10 surnames.
The residents of Anderson Road in Heyfield will be proud that their name (also Anderson!) is sitting comfortably at #11 in the top 20 surnames in Australia, while Nguyen is sitting pretty at #15.
At a state level not much changes with Taylor sneaking into the top five surnames in both South Australia and Western Australia. You Tasmanians like to do things a little differently down there don’t you? Walker, Harris & Clark are all unique to Tasmania’s top 10 surnames. Last but not least, Victoria’s multiculturalism is on display with Nguyen & Singh both holding spots in the top 10 surnames.
Things start to get a little interesting when you look for the suburbs that don’t include any of the national top 10 surnames. Congratulations Plumpton in Victoria – your top 10 surnames is completely different to the 10 most popular names in Australia!
